The United States Mint is planning to update the reverse design of bullion American Eagles for the first time in history in 2021.
That means that collectors may have one last chance to enjoy John Mercanti’s famous adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States on a 2021-dated bullion Silver Eagle. The coin is struck from a 1oz planchet of 0.999 fine silver and is a legal $1 United States tender.
The coin was given the Type-1 pedigree to note that it bears the original Mercanti Heraldic Eagle reverse design.
The coin is graded MS70and certified First Day of Issue by NGC and comes set in a Gold foil core.

Exquisite Lion Design
A knight stands at the center of the obverse in full armor. Covering his legs is a shield that bears a lion rampant. A rim inscription in Dutch translates to “Silver money of the Province of the Netherlands.” Beadwork is both inside and outside of that inscription.
On the reverse is a rampant lion, which appears on the Dutch coat of arms. The powerful creature swings its tail and has its tongue stuck out menacingly. There is an inscription on the rim that translates to “Who trusts in the Lord is not moved.” It is joined by the date, “2017.”

The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation determined that this coin is in perfect condition as seen under 5x magnification, as evidenced by the coin’s perfect Proof 70 grade.
